New Policy for Over-the-Counter Medications

Effective Immediately - Our center has implemented a new medication policy. Due to state regulations, our center will no longer be allowed to administer any over-the-counter medications to any child unless we have a doctor’s statement.  When having your family physician to write a statement, please have the physician to include the following information.

1. Date
2. Child’s Name, date of birth, and weight
3. Type of medication
4. Amount to be given
5. How often the child needs the medication
6. Start date and end date for authorization (i.e. an authorization can have an effective date up to a maximum of one (1) year)
7. Physician’s contact information

Our center will require a statement to be in hand before giving a child any medication. If you have an infant or toddler child enrolled, I would advise that you contact your health care provider and have a statement written and placed it on file here at the center. Additionally, parents will still have to fill out the medication form. Please be advised this policy change includes all Tylenol, Motrin, Diaper rash creams, any type of over the counter medication.

Again, I would like to say this is a new state regulation and our center must follow all regulations that the state implements. This is not a rule that I have created. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to stop by the front office or my co-director’s office.
