Little Wonders Daycare was founded in May 1999. Although originally opened as a family childcare with only had a few children enrolled, there was always a vision for making a difference in the lives of children. Today, Little Wonders is a Kentucky Licensed Type I daycare center with over 100 children enrolled. Since 2009, our center has maintained a 3-star rating through the Kentucky Stars for Kids standards program. Currently, the center is preparing our application to obtain the National Association for the Education of Young Children accreditation for our programs. Little Wonders continues to be geared toward the whole child and focuses on the child, the parent, and the community.
Little Wonders Daycare (LWDC) is responsible for providing caring, safe and quality environment for all children ages zero to school age. This is an unpaid internship with our organization that will expose the intern to the developmental, educational, and wellness programs and services provided within our child daycare and afterschool programs. The LWDC offers a variety of unique internships that are an opportunity for college interns to gain practical experience and develop workplace skills for working with children and their families.
Degrees/Majors Considered: Working toward (AA or BA/BS) in Early Childhood Education or related field (i.e. Human Development, Early Intervention, Child and Family Studies, Social Work, Small Business Administration and Management).
Application Dates: Available year-round with receipt of application package at least 60 days prior to requested start date; internship approval dependent on successful completion of background check.
Positions: Part-Time or Full-Time, Unpaid
Job Title: Varies – dependent on intern’s academic objectives
Internship Description: Internships at LWDC can be tailored for a full-time professional internship (i.e., 40 hours per week for 10 – 12 weeks) or a part-time experience internship (minimum of 16 hours per week for 10-12 weeks). Applicants typically have completed at least one year of college for a two year degree and three years of college for a four year degree and must be at least 18 years old. Intern positions will be tailored to meet the intern’s academic program requirements and intern’s identified goals and objectives.
- Professional internships will focus on responsibilities in assisting the Program Director in assessing, prototyping, observing, and evaluating facilitated programs at LWDC. The information gathered is used to ensure program objectives and educational goals are being met.
- Experience internships will be able to focus on developing and observing classroom management, child/parent interactions, and fostering and mentoring age appropriate skills and routines.
Requirements:
- Experience with children and child development, education, social services programs, or business administration and management.
- Willingness to learn; creative thinker; team player.
- Ability to follow oral instructions and ask for assistance and additional explanation as necessary.
- Ability and willingness to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of the correct manner to handle different children and situations.
- Must be able to communicate well and have superior leadership and public relation skills.
- Must possess the ability to relate and communicate with people of all ages, cultures and abilities.
- Must be experienced user of Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), Internet Explorer, with knowledge of social media applications a plus.
- Must pass a background check.
- Must have current certification in CPR and First Aid. (i.e., for classroom experience.)

Must have up-to-date immunization record. Current TB skin test and influenza immunization required.
